Are You Ready For Battle?
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever...
Hebrews 6:17-20
What a great encouragement to know that the God of all creation is steadfast and unchanging. He has promised eternal salvation for those who seek him in earnest. We can be secure to know that God provided a way for humanity to have eternal salvation. The reality is, however, that few will find their way to this great promise (Matt 7:13-14). Why is it this way? People do not like to be told the truth, there is only one way to eternal salvation (John 14:6), but any other message goes against the very words of God’s chosen Messiah, Jesus.
The writer of Hebrews is conveying the importance of study in the word of God. Only the Word will reveal the character and nature of the Creator. It is only when we know the LORD that we will mature in our walk with him. Finally, it is only in our understanding of who He is that we will recognize the reality of evil and the spiritual war that is raging all around us. If you have not noticed, we in the greatest battle for human souls in the history of humanity. If you have noticed, then you clearly see the depth of evil and how ruthless satan is. The enemy has always been there to confuse, mislead, and veer humans into all sorts of behaviors and ideologies that drive them away from God. If you do not know the Savior intimately, then you are easy prey for the enemy and you will be a casualty in this battle.
Are you aware of how easily an entire population can be brainwashed into believing a lie? We are incredibly complex creatures who have the ability to think about what we are thinking about. We are easily swayed by popular opinion because we want to be well thought of, so going against the grain makes us uncomfortable. It is necessary sometimes, however, to rise above the flow of societal norms and seek the absolute truth. Here on this earth, anything pertaining to the ways of God, will be countercultural, so following the Creator will not be a popular thing to do. Jesus was very clear with his disciples when he said “if the world hates you, it is because they hated me first” (John 15:18).
